The Women of Lambda Kappa Omega Sorority, Inc. stand in solidarity to positively impact the lives of youth within our organization and community, focusing on health, safety, and daily living activities.
I care because, at any point, abuse could become deadly, a life lost, a parent gone. So many times, the abuse continues, and it does not just affect the lives of the victim—the victim's children, parents, siblings, family, and friends. Let's stop the silence and fight back. By fighting back, I mean ending the abuse and getting out before it's too late.
Mentoring youth is crucial for their development, self-confidence, and the acquisition of practical decision-making skills. A trusted adult provides guidance and support, helping young people navigate life's challenges. Knowing when to seek help is crucial for building emotional resilience, and asking for assistance is a sign of strength, not weakness. Through mentorship, youth develop strong values, set meaningful goals, and gain the confidence to overcome obstacles. This not only shapes a brighter future for them but also strengthens communities and fosters a more resilient society.
This reality is a daily endangerment to the lives of thousands of children and women. I am referring to domestic violence. Domestic violence for many is held as a shameless secret that many are afraid to disclose. Domestic violence affects every household. It could be a family member, close friend, coworker, or neighbor. Sometimes the very people that appear to be the happiest, are the silent victims hurting the most.
When most people think of Domestic Violence, they think of women. But that’s not the only case; it affects men, women and children. Statistics show 5.7% of the population of women and 3.2% of men are in domestic violent relationships. Some people show no signs, they walk around with smiles trying to help other people in fear of people knowing about they’re abuse.
Did you know that most abusers aren’t easy to spot? In public, they can seem to
be smart, trustworthy, adorable, and loveable people that would positively draw your attention., Behind closed doors, women, me, and children are awakening to nightmares. Domestic Violence takes away the dignity and worth of every human being. In a world filled with love, there should be no place for any violence. Love should be a sanctuary and not a war zone.
We need to let people know no matter who is abusing, it is wrong. People are not
possessions; you do not own anyone. If you love the person as you say, you want what is best for them, and hurting them is not what’s best. Stop and think before you react. When we see someone doing something wrong let us stop minding our own business. That is our business. Humans seem to have lost humanity. We don’t have a community like we used to. Let us educate rather than condemn.
Join us for some good, old-fashioned girl talk, food, and prizes. This event is free, but registration is required.
At Lambda Kappa Omega, we are dedicated to empowering young women nationwide. This year, we plan to host a breakfast event filled with affirmations, crafts, fun activities, and educational opportunities. Our goal is to keep the girls engaged while teaching them essential life lessons in a way that feels enjoyable rather than educational. How can we achieve this? With the support of our amazing Sorors and educators. Please check back regularly for updates on the breakfast and affirmations throughout the chapters nationwide.
